The Sign Design Awards, organised by the Sign Design Society seek to encourage and promote the best projects undertaken worldwide in the field of signing and wayfinding.

Four award categories generated entries from individuals and organisations in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Portugal and the USA as well as the UK. The projects themselves were equally geographically diverse adding France, Muscat, Switzerland and the UAE to the list.

A high point in the 2009 competition was reached on October 22nd at a prestigious ceremony at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, where an invited audience saw the winners and those commended receive their prizes. Full information on the Awards ceremony, the winners and the projects they submitted is on the dedicated Awards Website.

The prizes were presented at a prestigious ceremony at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, London on October 22nd, attended by members of the Society, its financial supporters and press representatives. The ceremony was sponsored by No-Nonsense Design and the trophies for the winners were designed and manufactured in vitreous enamel by A J Wells and Sons.

This year’s Awards do not finish there as over forty of the entries to the competition will be shown at an exhibition at the Building Centre in London from 2nd to 14th November. The exhibition is free and there will be a comments book for your observations.

This exhibition will then relocate to Vienna, Austria in December

It will be the centrepiece of Sign09, a series of workshops on related themes, organised by our friends, the International Institute of Information Design, in association with the Society.
