Oto means “noise” or “music” in Japanese, and original sounds underpin the philosophy of this innovative venue. As such, the large cafe and performance space works to satiate thirst in both the physical and auditory sense.
With a large assortment of mostly beverages like teas, ciders, ales, organic fruit juices and fair trade coffees, plus homemade cakes and other baked goods, Oto makes for a pleasant location for an afternoon read, but really shines when musicians set up camp at night.
Its eclectic programme—ranging from folk and avant-garde musician Kath Bloom to the bi-monthly Twisted Lounge salon, featuring experiemental music—demonstrates Oto’s devotion to showcasing new music. Based in the middle East London, the cafe supports its local community by giving a platform to the best of local art/folk/jazz talent, while embracing the best new national and international music and art.
