Vauxhall is home to more all-night clubs than any other area of London, which makes its other largest attraction—Bella the giant pig—all the more unexpected. Bella and her many four-legged friends can be found at Vauxhall City Farm; developed in 1977 with local volunteers working to transform derelict land into a rare oasis of country life in the heart of the city.

The pulsing sounds of house music from nearby clubs is almost entirely drowned out by the unrelenting bleating of goats, mooing of cows and oinking of pigs in this unusually green-thumbed urban space. Make your way through the all-too-often boggy grounds to enjoy a picnic by the duck pond, or a stroll next to the pony paddock. The farm also houses a community dye garden, featuring a variety of vegetables and plants used to produce natural dyes utilized by the farm’s spinning and dying workshops. This small slice of rural life is possibly the only place in South London to offer milking demonstrations and donkey rides, so pull on your wellies and pop over for a piece of the rustic action.Quote_transparent
