Philippe Starck designed the 10,000 square foot spa at the Sanderson hotel as a homage to Cocteau’s dreamlike landscapes. Billowing white curtains hang from the sky high ceiling, creating a space that’s not far off the hypnotic 80s movie Labyrinth. Fortunately however, no heavily eye-shadowed Bowie here; instead serene therapists float through the two-floored spa and its myriad of private, partitioned meditation beds or plump Egyptian cotton relaxation couches.

Beyond a granite tiled steam room and Italianate inspired powder rooms, the spa is a true homage to some of the spa world’s connoisseur beauty brands. Eve Lom, Aromatherapy Associates and Spanish skincare gurus Natura Bissé serve up a spectacular menu of favorites to restore and replenish, plump and depuff depending on the call for action. Notably, the Eve Lom facial gets our vote; an 80-minute airbrush equivalent of honey and almond paraffin wax, rescue creams, intensive lymphatic facial drainage and cold ice cube toning.

Simple ingredients and methods, all faultlessly delivered by friendly experts. It’s hard not to be impressed. And, if the thought of translucent skin doesn’t inspire, alternative treatments such as Reiki, Thai massage or a signature Agua Milk and Honey body wrap – complete with warm honey and milk proteins – are sure to awaken the most hesitant individual’s inner Cleopatra.Quote_transparent
