Although a little off the beaten art path, Camden Arts Centre is a space that is always worth searching out. The north London gallery (which is actually closer to Hampstead than Camden) is a major public institution, specialising in young major talents on their way up, though some of the old school greats pop up from time to time.
Work by European artists is primarily exhibited here; the place to catch important exhibitions from artists like Kerry James Marshall, Tal R, Aernout Mik, Bas Jan Ader, Wilhelm Sasnal and David Shrigley. The Centre also produces insightful ring bound essays on each artist shown, which are collectible items in their own right. The bookshop is also worth the visit, with an impressive selection of art theory books, monographs and visual media publications. Should your eyes begin to bug out examining all the fodder, collapse in the spacious café with its large, open air garden for a well deserved fresh mint tea and piece of cake.
