Thanks to the arrival of Eurostar and everything that goes with it (the glorious St Pancras hotel, Europe’s longest champagne bar, etc.), King’s Cross is now well into its long-overdue facelift. Long gone are the drugs and prostitution rackets of old, replaced by a new wave of bars and restaurants.

Owned by the team behind longstanding London haunts Cargo and Market Place, the Camino tapas bar is one such venue. Tucked away in an urban courtyard with outdoor seating (alfresco in King’s Cross: who’d have thought it?), it blends industrial chic (exposed brickwork, piping) with Spanish flair (terracota flagstones, Iberian maps, flamenco images). A large skylight in the dining area adds to the bright, airy feel.

Grab some top-notch tapas first, including melt-in-the-mouth Jamon Iberico and the Saplicon de Pulpo (Marinated Octopus with Paprika Vinaigrette), then move through to the main bar area where a mix of guest and in-house DJs play spirited tunes – plus there’s live music every month, and open-air fiestas when the less-than-Mediterranean weather permits.Quote_transparent
