A rock ‘n’ roll institution if ever there was one, no visit to London is complete without the Lock Tavern. Many a rock star has been spotted here getting glamorously wasted and proving that it’s always more fun to watch famous people making arses out of themselves than non-celebrities. Fittingly, they also have an impressive line-up of bands and DJs who perform, such as the owner himself, Jon Carter and Arctic Monkey drummer, Matt Helders.
The Lock’s beer garden and terrace make for the perfect sun traps during long warm days; come winter, both outdoor areas provide heaters to take the edge off standing outside for a cigarette in the freezing cold. Do be warned that while the Lock does attract a bohemian crowd, it is part of the popular Chalk Farm stretch, meaning that drinking your vodka tonic alongside telesales execs from Yellow Pages in a very non rock ‘n’ roll, more easy listening fashion can occasionally happen.
