There’s no denying it, it’s a schlep. Hardly your ‘drop-in’ wellness venue of choice, the distinguished and discreet venue that is the Six Senses Pan Peninsula falls under a global brand name known only too well for its ability to juxtapose luxury with minimalism. It’s a formula few elite spa hotels worldwide have achieved, and one that – beyond the breathtaking views and lotus flowers on the bed – boils down to utterly incredible service. And that’s what this is, a carbon copy of the Asian Six Senses brand offering, except, sadly, without the flowers and sunsets (unless you count the smoggy vistas of Docklands at dusk).

But we digress – the focus here is on the spa and its selection of sumptuous, customised Asian treatments and holistic experts who deliver anything from reiki to hypnotherapy. Located in a slick, Wall Street-esque building, the actual spa is far more inviting than the cold feel of the lobby and offers a welcome respite from city’s stresses that lead most patrons here in the first place. Organic, inoffensive and ecologically sourced wood, stone, bamboo and textured bark all conjures a calming, naturalistic scene within which to seek serenity; music, flowing water and the odd onyx Buddha too comprising an atmosphere that’s a million miles away from the financial district’s freneticism.

Beyond some indulgent downtime in the city-facing hydrotherapy pool, eight opulent spa suites await for some upscale scrubs, rubs and exotic pummeling using naturally derived organic oils and sustainable ingredients. Okay so it’s a little hypocritical to push green ideals when situated in such a electricity guzzling part of the capital, but nevertheless, Six Senses helps put back what city living takes out.Quote_transparent
